The Israeli Osteopathy Union |
The Union's aims:
Promoting osteopathy in Israel Increasing public awareness of the osteopathic profession Defining operative domains for osteopathy in Israel to protect the profession Facilitating the establishment of osteopathic schools in Israel by disseminating information and providing professional support
Osteopathy is recognized and practiced in many countries around the world, where millions benefit from its treatments daily. The Israeli Osteopathy Union seeks to advance knowledge of osteopathy among the general public and health professionals. The Union endeavours to sustain standards of professionalism and ethics among osteopathic practitioners through admission tests for new osteopaths and by ensuring that its membership adheres to a binding code of ethics.
In Israel, only a few dozen osteopaths practice today, their small number making osteopathy inaccessible for most of the population. By comparison, in Britain, for example, the ratio of osteopaths per population is 12 times what it is in Israel. Service availability would be improved if osteopathic schools are established in Israel to allow professional training locally and not only abroad.
Alternative medicine is capable of achievements, recognition and visibility as demonstrated by the emergence of the sector in Israel over the past few decades, particularly since the establishment of schools for training in various alternative methods.
Osteopathy is destined for a similar transformation if osteopathic schools are established in Israel.
The Union admits certified osteopaths for membership. Fourth-year students of osteopathy are admitted as candidates. The Israeli Osteopathy Union is a registered society with the Ministry of Justice.
